From information provided by Horg Neurocam, of the Mineralogical Society:

Discovered in 1884 by Dr. Cavor during the Caledonian Survey Mineralogical Expedition, this outcropping of the Caledon Moors contained a bountiful vein of the rare earth ore Cavorite, a unique mineral that repels the force of gravity. Dr. Cavor himself saw to the creation of the mining outpost, and to the research station that sought to explain the strange biomorphic stone structures found embedded in the layers of deep strata.

In the following decades the mine produced a wealth of ore, and a plethora of unanswered questions: What civilization produced the strange stone structures? How did they use the cavorite, and what caused their disappearance? If the cavorite is not native to the strata, what created it?

Alas, the answers to these and many other questions may never be fully answered. After a series of terrible storms across from Winterfell, the telegrams received from the Site became unintelligable, and then ceased altogether. A rescue party dispatched from Caledon Tamrannoch found the site completely deserted.

The Visitor Centre stands today as a beacon to the curious Second Life Citizen who wishes to enhance their knowledge in the ever-fertile field of exoarcheology.

While Cavorite mining actively continues, The Souvenir shop is currently under renovations following what appears to be the combined effects of localized tremors and vandalisms.
